Go Easy on the Garbage Disposal

Run cold water before, during, and after you use the disposal, and feed it small amounts at a time.

That leftover turkey grease may pour like a liquid, but it cools into a solid that sticks to the inside of your pipes. Instead of rinsing it down the sink, pour cooled grease into a can or jar and throw it in the trash. This one habit prevents a huge share of holiday drain clogs.
Give Your Kitchen Sink a Break
With back-to-back meals, your kitchen plumbing takes a beating. Scrape plates into the trash before rinsing, use a sink strainer to catch food scraps, and space out your dishwasher loads so the system isn't overwhelmed.
Watch for Warning Signs
